Olathe, Kan.-based Topcon Precision Agriculture will release CropSpec, its new real-time integrated plant nutrient monitoring and application system, early this year, according to a news release.
Two sensors in the system, which was developed in conjunction with fertilizer manufacturer Yara International, measure the light spectrum reflected by the plant canopy.
The measurements can be correlated to the amount of plant chlorophyll content, which is closely related to plant nitrogen content.
The information can be used to assess plant health. It also can be used to develop variable-rate precision application maps for fertilizer.
