If you grow asparagus and can meet certain U.S. Department of Agriculture criteria, you may be eligible for up to $12,000 and help in developing a business plan.

The funding is part of the Trade Adjust Assistance for Farmers, which helps producers of commodities that have been adversely affected by imports.

To qualify, you must be able to document that you produced asparagus in 2009 as well as one of three previous marketing years—2006, 2007 or 2008, according to a news release.

You also must be able to certified that production or price declined from previous years.

Deadline to apply is Sept. 23.
