Now that Sen. Barack Obama has been elected, the industry must get to work encouraging Obama’s transition team to appoint cabinet and other leaders with produce ties and not just fill important agriculture roles with people tied to program crop interests.

Some congressional names from the farm bill battle — House Agriculture Chairman Collin Peterson, D-Minn.; U.S. Reps. Dennis Cardoza and Jim Costa, both D-Calif. — have been mentioned for leadership positions who have been champions for produce and would be welcomed by the industry (see (outdated link – contact the web editor at webeditor@thepacker.com if you need this information)
