The discovery of two Oriental fruit flies in an orange tree in Orlando has triggered an emergency program designed to eradicate the pest, according to a news release from Charles Bronson, the state's agriculture commissioner.

The Oriental fruit fly is considered one of the most serious of the world's fruit fly pests and can attack more than 100 different fruits, vegetables and nuts, the release says.

Mangoes and lychees from the Far East are possible sources of fruit fly introductions.
