The Maitland-based Florida Specialty Crop Foundation has named Sonia Tighe as its new executive director, according to a news release.

Tighe, a 26-year veteran of agricultural publishing, also is vice president of Florida Agri-Women, chair of the Florida Ag Expo Committee and co-chair of the Florida Fruit & Vegetable Association's Benefit Auction.

Founded in 1991, the foundation addresses specialty crop growers' scientific needs in production, marketing, transportation, and fruit and vegetable consumption.

This fiscal year, it received two federal Specialty Crop Initiative grants for research into tomato and potato late blight and for development of a farm labor contractor training program.

The foundation is a 501(c)(3) non-profit corporation.
